House Tour Showcases Sophisticated Design

I love perusing real estate web sites like Zillow for high priced houses that offer high style inspiration. This home for sale at 5300 Sunset Dr. in Kansas City embraces a sophisticated and subtle style that showcases the architecture and finishes of the home beautifully.

Subtle neutral colors featured on furnishings throughout this living room put the emphasis on the room itself. Light colored rugs on dark floors visually lighten up the space while creating clearly defined conversation areas. The pale color palette complements the distinctive fireplace.

A richly patterned stair runner steals the spotlight. The high contrast intricate pattern adds visual interest to the plain wood stairs. This large scale pattern could easily overwhelm the space if it was made into wallpaper or a full size rug. By limiting the pattern to a narrow runner the design makes a statement without upstaging the other elements in the space.

The challenge with white kitchens is that they often look cold and clinical. To create a warm and welcoming gathering space this kitchen features natural materials and colors like the honey colored wood floor, chocolate colored built in cabinets, and dramatic metal frame lighting. Pot lights in the ceiling and under cabinet lighting provide additional light to spotlight all the cook's gourmet creations.

Between the pattern in the rug, upholstery in the chairs, wallpaper and curtains I count four different patterns in this dining room. The key to harmoniously blending so many patterns is subtlety. The pattern in the monochromatic fabric of the chairs looks woven in, the rug features a subtle variation in colors, while the wallpaper and drapes feature contrasting patterns in subdued neutral colors. The mix of patterns prevents the collection of neutral colors from coming across as boring.

Just because you live in a mansion doesn't mean you don't need storage solutions. This bedroom incorporates multiple furnishings that bring style and extra storage to the room. The dresser next to the bed doubles as a nightstand. The cabinet in front of the window provides hidden storage while a spacious armoire acts as a closet.

Exhausted after your tour of this mega mansion? Relax and take a dip in the backyard pool. Stylish striped lounge chairs and lush plants enhance the resort style backyard oasis. The only thing missing from this scene is a cute cabana boy bringing you a refreshing beverage to sip poolside.
